Chimney Liner Public Speaking

The chimney and chimney liner industry is an example of an industry where anyone can break into the free lance public speaking field. This is an industry that needs but lacks public speakers. It requires learning the lingo, the industry standards and the audience needs.

The History

Most chimneys from the past few decades were created using brick, stone or concrete block with a tera-cotta flue pipe that lined the inside of the chimney. This is the space where the furnace or fireplace expel what is left once the fuel burns.

In the case of natural gas or propane, since they burn clean, there is little residual that will need to be cleaned on a regular basis. Wood fireplaces require cleaning to be safe. However this is only half of the safety issue. The other half, the gases that could escape a leaking flue into a homeowners living space pose the greatest challenge.

The problem of the old style tera-cotta flue pipe is that they are somewhat fragile. The constant heating and cooling can in time cause cracks that can allow the gases to escape. If this escaped gas should it get into the home it could result in health problems.

Then a revolution in chimney repair came along. The stainless steel chimney liner will not crack or leak. It can even withstand the heat and not break down. One company even has a lifetime guarantee for homeowner installed units.

My wife the Realtor has dealt with home owner inspections where the old liner was cracked and leaking poisonous gas into the home. The old fashioned way of repairing was quite expensive. The liner is still not cheap however, if the homeowner is handy, it is a do it yourself job that can save you thousands on your chimney.

Here is the best part. All your chimney research is available on the web. Armed with some research, contact any of the manufacturers of the product and offer to speak at any local convention.

Two Ways to Get Pay

Some industries pay for speakers to make presentations. These are usually in-house presenters who go on the road. Most cannot be in several places at one time. So if you do the homework, find a building show, a DIY convention or the like and contract to make the presentation.

Don’t stop here. Set up a sales commission structure and work the audience and make some sales for the distributor. It could turn into an annual job that pays a handsome fee and an even better sales commission too.

Related topics to research would be chimney sweep and construction.

Best wishes on your speaking career.
